Research notes
A Boston-based textile artist who tufts bold, abstract designs in yarn and then carves the pile with scissors and razors into raised, sculpted pieces (CoolCuration, updated 28 Oct 2026). One profile says he made detailed dotwork portraits before turning to textile art in 2021. Estimates of the time a piece takes differ: 40 to 70 hours (The Inspiration Grid), or 50 to 80 hours and over 100 for the most detailed (CoolCuration). My Modern Met describes a rainbow-road piece commissioned by Sphere Las Vegas for Dead & Company that took 107 hours. Instagram: @davidnott (CoolCuration); My Modern Met gives his TikTok as @davidnottt. Not the war surgeon and author of the same name. Research note (Oct 2026): from search results; pages not opened.
