Research notes

The Erdemoğlu family began in 1970 with two kilim looms in Gaziantep, moved to carpet looms in 1983, formed Erdemoğlu Halı A.Ş. in 1990, renamed Merinos Halı in 1998, made its own yarn from 1992 and grouped its firms as Erdemoğlu Holding in 2010. Says it makes about 40 million m² of machine-made rugs a year. Why it matters: included for contrast—Merinos is a machine-WOVEN (cut-pile) giant, not a tufter; tufting in the group is attributed to sister brand Dinarsu, not confirmed here. Dates: 1990 vs 1998 for corporate name; rankings ("world's largest woven rug maker", "third-largest") are company or press claims.
