Research notes
Aubusson-Felletin tapestry manufacture. The French culture ministry's inventory lists Pinton as founded in 1867 at Felletin, making contemporary tapestries and tufted rugs. Jean Pinton built new workshops in 1912 and later added fitted carpet (company says from the 1940s) and tufted-rug departments. The company says it was "one of the first manufactories" to use gun tufting and has specialised in hand-tufted rugs since the early 1990s. Lucas Pinton took over in 2002 when the firm was near bankruptcy; it bought Art de Lys (2021), took control of the Manufacture Royale du Parc d'Aubusson (2023) and opened an 1,800 m² tufting plant at Croze (May 2024). Roughly 110–120 staff. Why it matters: shows a centuries-old European tapestry centre adopting the tufting gun, with tufting now its main volume business. Dates: 1867 confirmed by the culture ministry; the "one of the first to use gun tufting" and early-1990s dates are company claims only.
