Research notes

Founded in 1895 in Kirkcaldy and moved in 1900 to Kidderminster, the centre of British carpet weaving; listed 1963, AIM 2013. From 2012 Geoff Wilding turned it into an acquisitive flooring group (Victoria Carpets Australia 2014, Abingdon Flooring, Balta rugs 2022 and others). Products include tufted and woven broadloom and carpet tiles; it describes itself as the UK's largest carpet manufacturer. Why it matters: a Kidderminster weaver that now consolidates much of Europe's and Australia's machine-made carpet, tufted and woven. Dates: 1895 consistent; founder given as George Anton (company) vs a weaver from Halifax named John Bamber (one analyst article). "UK's largest" is a company claim (2021).
