Research notes
Marketing drops 胶背 ("glue-back") and sells 手工枪刺地毯, so consumers hear 手工 ("handmade") and infer hand-knotted. Identical to what "hand-tufted" does in English. Citation check (Oct 2026, from search results; pages not opened): confirmed in a different source. Supported. The official product name keeps 胶背 (手工枪刺胶背地毯, GB/T 27729-2011), while trade usage shortens it to 手工枪刺地毯. Sources say gun-tufted carpets are often marketed or perceived as 手工 (handmade), and one calls them effectively machine-assisted products 'mistakenly called handmade'. Baidu Baike nonetheless classifies them as a type of 手工地毯. The main sources are hand-knotted sellers with an interest in the distinction.
