Germany (trade press, 1959: "nur durch Außenseiter"), Japan (Nihon Jūtan: Wilton 1955, tufting only 1981; Toli came from vinyl tile) and Britain show the same pattern. A cross-cultural finding nobody seems to have written down. Citation check (Oct 2026, from search results; pages not opened): partly confirmed. The German 1959 'bisher nur durch Außenseiter' quote is confirmed (bwd retrospective quoting its own Sept 1959 issue, naming Tuftex Hameln, Tufton Emsdetten, Dura Tufting Fulda). Nihon Jūtan is confirmed: Wilton loom no. 1 in 1955 and a tufted-carpet machine in 1981 at the Sakai Takasago plant. But Nihon Jūtan was only founded in 1951 (as 村田織物工場, an upholstery weaver), so it is not an old weaving house. Toli is confirmed as a linoleum/vinyl-tile firm whose first carpet was a 1967 needlepunch product with Teijin. COUNTER-EXAMPLE: Japan's first tufting adopter was Suminoe (住江織物), an established carpet weaver whose origin is hand-woven dantsu in 1883; it imported a US tufting machine in 1954. That undercuts 'adopted by outsiders, not established weavers' for Japan. The Britain claim is unsourced in the brief.
