Research notes
This is a Danish hand tool for making carpets, patented across Europe on the eve of WWII. The same 4 Oct 1938 Danish priority is claimed by GB532412A ("Improved apparatus for the hand-sewing of carpets", application GB24809/39 filed 29 Aug 1939, published 23 Jan 1941), FR853635A ("Appareil pour coudre à la main les tapis"), DE712192C and BE436213A. Google Patents puts the French member under CPC D05C15/06 (hand tufting needles; hand-held tufting apparatus). In that period "sewing carpets" can mean making pile by hand-stitching yarn into a backing, not seaming, but I have not read the claims to confirm that. Verified Oct 2026 by web search only. patents.google.com and Espacenet could not be opened from the sandbox, so I did not read the document itself. I read the inventor, title and dates from Google Patents result snippets for CH214147A and GB532412A. The GB snippet does not name the applicant, so linking it to Thomsen is my inference from the shared priority. Research note (Oct 2026): found through search results; the patent document itself wasn't opened. The Patent drawings job fetches the document from Google Patents; if drawings appear on this record, the number is confirmed.
