Research notes
This is the founding patent of the Hofmann hand-tufting gun lineage. Hofmann Handtuft-Technik's history page says the firm began in 1973 as Scholz Handtuft-Technik KG in Allersberg, with Hartmut ("Harmut") Scholz and Heinz Hofmann as managing directors. This patent was filed by Scholz from Allersberg in the same year. Its US counterpart is US3968758A, "Arrangement for the tufting of carpets" (13 Jul 1976). Wilcom's later patents (EP1674605, US8225727) cite "the Scholz (US 3,968,758)" gun as an earlier hand-held tufting gun whose cutter could be engaged and disengaged by hand. Later German filings citing it include DE2621360A1 and DE3410783A1. Verified Oct 2026 by web search only. patents.google.com and Espacenet could not be opened from the sandbox, so I did not read the document itself. Title, assignee, town and dates come from Google Patents snippets, and the Allersberg link from the company's own history page. No patent in the name of Hofmann itself was found. Research note (Oct 2026): found through search results; the patent document itself wasn't opened. The Patent drawings job fetches the document from Google Patents; if drawings appear on this record, the number is confirmed.
