Research notes
Handheld tufting guns that need an air compressor as well as electricity, sold by Tuft the World for high (shag) pile. Industrial grade high pile pneumatic tufting gun (ZQ-III) (now archived; product record created 24 May 2018): "We now carry the ZQ-III commercial grade pneumatic rug tufting gun." The page says it is "used in factory settings to create stunning rugs in large scale" and does both cut and loop pile. Listed specifications: pile height 18–70 mm (.75–2.75 in); weight 7 lb (3.2 kg); input power 220 W; variable speed 0–2,000 stitches per minute; air pressure 8 bar at 200 L/min; 220 V power, so buyers in 110 V countries needed a converter. It shipped with a filter and fittings; the buyer supplied the compressor and hose. The page is written in the first person ("Why purchase from me?", "I offer free training with every purchase") and offers a 180-day parts warranty. Last listed price $1,350. AK-III Industrial Tufting Machine (on sale): "a high-pile electric and pneumatic tufting machine that creates both cut and loop shags in a range of lengths, simply by changing the tufting needle". It comes with nine needles from 20 to 60 mm; adjustable pile lengths 20–60 mm; weight 4 lb 13 oz (2.18 kg); 110 V; "Precision Japanese motor"; it "requires an air compressor, a standard air hose, and an air filter" (not included). The page says it is "Best for intermediate and advanced tufters". Price $599. The AK-III's product record was created on 1 September 2018, but its web address is "rug-tufting-gun-v2-0", so the record may first have been used for a different gun; when the AK-III itself first went on sale is not confirmed. ZQ-III is also the model name of a pneumatic tufting gun on the Chinese maker Dayang's website (see tool-dayang-guns). Tuft the World's page does not name the maker, but Tim Eads, a founder of Tuft the World, says its ZQ machines were made by Dayang (see finding-ttw-gun-suppliers). Dates are the creation dates of the product records in the store's Shopify system, not confirmed first-sale dates. This is the database author's own firm: note the interest when citing it.
