Research notes

WinterCat: "Folder contains photographs and information sheets related to four bedspreads decorated with candlewick embroidery in which heavy cotton threads are pulled into loops to form designs. Most were made in the early nineteenth-century." Reproduction by written permission only from object's owner. The owners of the four spreads are not named in the record. Why it matters: Before the machine: candlewick spreads are the looped-cotton ancestor of Dalton tufting; the information sheets may give owners, dates and whether any loops were cut (tufted). Needs a visit to Visual Resources. Found: Winterthur Library catalogue (WinterCat), search "candlewick", 2026-10-28.
