Research notes

Photograph. Catalogue description: "Narrow width Cobble Brothers 40 DT carpet tufting machine with pattern attachment. Machine has Singer logo attached. Rollers are holding a residual amount of cut-pile tufted material." Date: 1953. Also in the collection: 1954 model broadloom machine by Cobble Bros. Machinery Co. (2011.002.0270); Cobble 120" loop pile Universal-type pattern machine, 1954 (2011.002.0271). Why it matters: Building the machine / Programmable tufting: a dated 1953 pattern attachment, and a Singer badge on a Cobble machine (Singer-Cobble link) earlier than often cited.
