Research notes

Photograph. Catalogue description: "Bedspread factory worker using a Southern Machine Company hand-held, needle-punch tufting gun to trace a pattern on materials attached to a box-like wooden frame. A foot-pedal control regulates the speed of the tufting gun. The tufting gun is supplied with yarn from two yarn cones suspended above the wooden frame. Small piles of discarded yarn are scattered across the floor while a finished bedspread is laying on top of a box on the left background." Undated. Why it matters: Hand tools and the gun: names a manufacturer of powered hand guns for bedspread work, with foot-pedal speed control. Undated; Southern Machine Co. dates would help.
