Research notes

Photograph. Catalogue description: "Chenille factory worker sewing in pattern using single needle machine. Sewing thread is unspooling from yarn cones at front of machine. Machine is numbered '133.' Machine in use is just one of several situated throughout the factory." Date: 1928. Why it matters: Building the machine / Dalton bedspreads: if the 1928 date holds, a factory already running numbered (133+) single-needle machines for chenille spreads in the late 1920s, earlier than most accounts of machine tufting. Date should be checked. Found: Bandy Heritage Center (PastPerfect), search "tufting machine", 2026-10-28.
