Research notes
The FloorTek Expo 2009 preview said Card-Monroe was introducing its ColorPoint series, which places 'up to six colors or more anywhere in a carpet pattern with pinpoint accuracy'. The company says the machines also give multiple pile heights and textures with single-stitch accuracy. The same preview said Tuftco's ColorTron, 'patented technology developed by Tuftco', had been introduced earlier that year, with a cut-and-loop version allowing any tuft to be cut or looped in any colour. ColorPoint is protected by US8141505 'Yarn color placement system' (filed 15 Feb 2008; granted 27 Mar 2012), continuations US8359989 (29 Jan 2013) and US8776703 (15 Jul 2014), EP2100994 and TR 2011 06842 T4 (Floor Trends). The system shifts needle bars and uses level-cut-loop loopers so that only the chosen colour shows on the face. Tuftco also filed the trademark ITUFT on 12 Jun 2009 (serial 77758770) for tufting machines and yarn-feed pattern attachments. Card-Monroe's own timeline also gives ColorPoint as 2009 (see co-card-monroe). ColorTron rests on a single trade preview.
