Research notes

Hand-knotted context. The Victoria County History (Middlesex, 'Industries: Tapestry') says Parisot first employed workers from Chaillot at Paddington, then moved to Fulham, with financial help from the Duke of Cumberland; the goods were judged too costly, Parisot left for Exeter, and his stock was auctioned in January 1756. The National Trust dates the venture 1753–55 and says he recruited émigré Savonnerie weavers; a 1755 publication dates its start to 1750. Axminster Heritage says Thomas Whitty learned about knotting partly by gaining access to the Fulham works. Conflict: 1750 vs 1753 start.
