Research notes

This is a British-originated tufting-machine patent from Singer-Cobble Ltd, Blackburn, on needle and looper operation (inferred from keywords). It is good evidence that the British arm of Cobble filed its own machine inventions in the 1960s. Grace's Guide says the American parent was taken over by Singer in 1960 and the Blackburn subsidiary became Singer-Cobble. Edgar Pickering left Singer-Cobble to found Edgar Pickering (Blackburn) in 1964, and Ronald Ellison founded Ellison Tufting Machinery in 1961; I found no patents for either. Verified Oct 2026 by web search only. patents.google.com and Espacenet could not be opened from the sandbox, so I did not read the document itself. The assignee, inventor and application number come from the Google Patents record. The publication date comes from a related-documents row. Research note (Oct 2026): found through search results; the patent document itself wasn't opened. The Patent drawings job fetches the document from Google Patents; if drawings appear on this record, the number is confirmed.
