Research notes
A Card-Monroe patent for 'enhanced graphic appearances' in tufted carpet, covering a tufting machine, a way of forming tufts and the resulting fabric. It cites Card et al. US3919953 (18 Nov 1975), two needle rows that put cut pile beside loop pile. A later patent (2003) credits US5058518 with computerised design centres, where designers develop patterns on a computer. This marks the move from mechanical patterning to computer-designed 'graphics' carpet.
