Research notes

Commemorative booklet marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the invention of nylon (Hagley summary). 36 page images. Its chronology page (image 2) reads, in the OCR text: "1958: A special bulked continuous filament nylon yarn was developed for carpeting; it soon revolutionized the market for rugs and carpeting by [introducing] nylon filament in loop pile construction" (OCR is garbled; check against the page image). Image 25: "Nylon for carpets now totals over 150 million pounds a year... New continuous type used in carpets has helped nylon take over 26 per cent of market for broadloom carpeting." Why it matters: Nylon chapter, open question "The BCF date (1957 or 1959)": DuPont's own 1963 chronology dates BCF carpet nylon to 1958. Also gives a 1963 market share for nylon in broadloom.
